Block Work
At SBC, we specialize in high-quality concrete block construction, delivering durable, fire-resistant, and structurally sound solutions for commercial and residential projects. Concrete blockwork is a fundamental component of shell construction, providing the strength and stability needed to support the building’s overall integrity. With our expertise, we ensure precision, efficiency, and compliance with all structural requirements to create a solid foundation for your project’s success.
How Block Work Is Done
The foundation is inspected and marked to ensure accurate wall placement. This step includes verifying alignment, elevation, and load distribution.
Concrete blocks are laid in a staggered pattern, with mortar applied between each unit to bond them securely. Vertical and horizontal reinforcement is integrated where necessary to enhance structural integrity.
Through a unique combination of engineering, construction and design disciplines and expertise, Concor delivers world class infrastructure solutions to customers and stakeholders across a broad range of industry sectors.
Steel reinforcement bars (rebar) are inserted into designated block cores, followed by grout filling to increase strength and resistance to lateral forces such as wind and seismic activity.
Once the block walls are completed, they undergo a curing process to ensure optimal strength. Additional finishes such as waterproof coatings, stucco, or insulation can be applied to enhance durability and performance.
Materials Used in Block Work
The quality and longevity of block construction depend on the right materials, including:
- Concrete Masonry Units (CMUs) – Available in various sizes and densities, CMUs provide structural support and fire resistance.
- Mortar – A mixture of cement, sand, and water that bonds the blocks together, ensuring stability.
- Steel Reinforcement (Rebar) – Strengthens block walls to withstand compression and lateral forces.
- Grout – A high-strength cementitious material used to fill reinforced block cores, adding rigidity.
- Waterproofing & Finishing Materials – Sealants, stucco, or coatings protect the walls from moisture and environmental damage.
